Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. Prior experience in water and/or sewer systems preferred. Must possess a State of Florida Class III or higher Water Distribution License or obtain within eighteen (18) months of employment (*USW II: Class III or higher, Backflow Tester and Repair license or obtain within one (1) year, and one (1) year experience; **USWIII Class III or higher, Backflow Tester and Repair license, Class C Sewer Collections certificate, and two (2) years’ experience). Applicants must have knowledge of Work Zone Safety requirements. Qualified applicants will have a Class B CDL with air brake endorsement, or be able to obtain one within six (6) months of employment.

Brief Description of Duties: Performs work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of utility plants and systems. Operates heavy equipment including a backhoe, trencher, front loader and boring machine in order to perform various maintenance tasks. Repairs and installs valves, meters, gauges, pumps and associated utility machinery; lays and cuts pipe and taps main and service lines. Maintains well pumps and other related equipment. Service Workers complete repairs to water system and possibly sewer system. Performs other related duties as assigned. Position is subject to emergency call-outs and must be able to work overtime including nights, weekends, holidays, and stand-by as required.

Employment Requirements: The selected candidate will have a background check completed, undergo drug testing, and complete a physical exam before employment. Tasks completed for this position involve regular and, at times, sustained physical exertion. Possession of a current valid Florida driver license is also required before employment.

The compensation package will start at the base salary range and may vary based on proven abilities of the individual selected. The City of Zephyrhills has an excellent benefit package, which includes medical, dental, life insurance, and Florida Retirement System (FRS).
